State Championships 2009

State Championships 2009

Hi Guys,

I wanted to give people an update on what is going to be happening during the 2009 State Champs...

We have secured Latrobe City, TRFM, GOLD1242, LV Express and WinTV as sponsors of the event.

This will give us major advertising for Inline Hockey in regional Victoria through all media outlets.

You will see road signage on the highway for 2 weeks prior to the event as you enter Moe.

On Saturday from 10am to 2pm we will be having TRFM(99.5) broadcasting live from the Stadium with their PT Cruisers out front, handing out show bags etc...

We will be operating both rinks (yes the 2nd rink - 40Mx25M - Perspex and all is just about finished!!) during the mornings, and then running hockey development schools for junior participants on Rink2 in the afternoons.

There will be player and goalie specific schools conducted! Change rooms are going to be adjacent to the building outside, so people can walk around the two rinks with ease.

We have some pretty good looking merchandise (stubby holders, Tshirts) which will be for sale during the tournament.

A fully stocked Pro Shop with all the latest gear, including a good range of WARRIOR and BAUER NIKE HOCKEY equipment will be available for purchase as tournament prices.

This is going to be one of the best State Championships in a long time!

For those who don't get the chance to attend a National Championship, this will be the closest thing!

I am looking forward to welcoming you all and showcasing a great weekend of inline hockey!!

PS - If you haven't already, please submit teams ASAP to Cheryl or Peter (Masters) as we are hoping to get the fixture completed well in advance so clubs/teams can organise themselves accordingly.

Regards,

Matt Beatson
Manager

ADAM WHITWORTH MEMORIAL AWARD

Most Valuable Club Member

Nominations are being sought for the Adam Whitworth memorial award for the most valuable club member, playing or non-playing. Somebody you think has made a great contribution to our club in 2008.

Adam was a valued member of the Lilydale Rats who unfortunately passed away in 2002. Adam contributed greatly to the club not only in his role on the committee, but also as a general club member. He showed good sportsmanship and always had a smile for his fellow club members.

This award carries with it a great honour, so I ask you to choose carefully as to whom you feel has displayed the values that Adam lived by.

Scrimmage Reminder

All members are reminded that fees are payable for each and every scrimmage. Please pay before you play! The standard fee is $10 per person and goes to cover the cost of hiring the rink.

Finals for Winter 2008 Season

Congratulations to the 10 and Under team and the 14 and Under team for winning the championship for the Winter 2008 season! Congratulations also to the Senior C (Black) team for their Runner-up position in their division!

The 10s won 4-2 against the Lions. The 14s won 7-2 against the Bulldogs. The Senior C (Black) team lost 4-5 against the Patriots.

News Alert!

A water pipe has burst at the Lilydale rink, so there will not be training on Tuesday 9th Sep 2008. Juniors who are still in the finals are asked to attend training on Thursday instead. Hopefully the water and the pipe will be cleaned up by then.

We've got a new website! The old website suffered a major breakdown, so we've moved to a new service that will hopefully be better than before.

Highlights from ILHV Winter 2008 Sanction

  • The 2008 Winter Season will be of twelve (12) rounds plus three rounds of finals duration to be played on a weekly basis.

  • The first round will commence on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th May, 2008 with the Grand Finals to be played on the 14th September, 2008.

All ages are as at 1st January 2008.

  • 10 & Under
  • 12 & Under
  • 14 & Under
  • 16 & Under
  • 18 & Under
  • 20 & Under
  • Senior A
  • Senior Ba
  • Senior Bb (formerly C1)
  • Senior C (formerly C2)

  • Senior A Players must have reached the age of 15 years of age, Senior B players 15 years of age and Senior C players 14 years of age as at the 1st January, 2008. Players who have turned 15 during the year may apply for a dispensation to play in Senior A or B.

  • Players may only play one (1) senior division game per Round.

  • Senior B players may play up to three (3) games in Senior A. However after three games in ‘A’s a player may no longer drop back to ‘B’s, (i.e. senior B grade players may play two games in Senior A and still drop back to B grade, but if they choose to play a third game in Senior A then they are no longer eligible to play B grade and must remain in A grade for the remainder of that season). Senior C players may play up to three (3) games with one of that club’s teams in Senior B. However after three games in ‘B’ with that team players may no longer drop back to ‘C’. They must remain in ‘B’ for the remainder of the season.

It is intended that this should cultivate an opportunity for development of borderline ‘A’ and ‘B’ players, not to be used to stack ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams. Therefore players who have played Senior Men’s Hockey at the National Championships in the last two years, or who have either played (in the last two years) or currently play Pro League in Victoria, or who have played Senior Men’s Hockey for any other State or Nation in the last two years are not eligible to play Senior B. It is accepted that from time to time, players coming back from serious injuries may need to spend a period of time in the ‘B’s to regain match fitness and confidence. Those players may apply to the Dispensation Committee for a dispensation to participate in Senior B. These dispensations are to be reviewed at regular intervals.

  • Senior C is open only to players over 35 years of age, less skilled players 14 years of age and over, and players deemed as suitable by the Dispensation Committee. Competitive players from Ice Hockey who have played in that capacity over the last two years will not be eligible for Senior C.

  • Players eligible for 10 & under are deemed to be Novices and cannot play both 10’s and 12’s. Once a player has played 12’s they must remain in the 12’s division. Players may apply to the Dispensations Committee for a dispensation from this rule, should it be felt that having participated in the 12 & under competition they are not sufficiently skilled or physically developed enough for that level.

  • Players may only play a maximum of two (2) junior club games per round, or 2 junior and 1 senior.

  • All games will be of two (2) 20 minute running time halves, with a five (5) minute rest period at half time. A two minute warm up period should be allowed before the commencement of any game, time permitting.

  • All games will be played with stop time if at the start of the last two minutes of the game the scoreboard shows a one (1) goal difference or less or if within the last two minutes the score becomes a one (1) goal difference or less. Once stop time commences, it will continue for the balance of the duration of the game notwithstanding that the scores cease to be a one (1) goal difference or less.

  • All games will be played under the FIRS/Inline Hockey Australia Rule Book or under Modified FIRS rules.

  • The minimum number of players required to commence a game is five (5). Teams shall be allowed to start a game with five floor players but no player shall have goalkeeper privileges.

  • If a team is short a goalie at the beginning of the game, five floor players will be allowed for the first period. If the goalie is not ready by the start of the 2nd period then the game is to be declared a forfeit. A scratch match may be played at this point, but will still be played under normal rules and conditions.

  • If during a game a team cannot place on the playing surface a minimum of 3 players, including the goal keeper, because of match penalties, gross misconduct, game misconduct, illness or injuries, then the offending team shall be deemed to forfeit the game and the points awarded to the non offending team.

  • Players must play a minimum of four (4) games with a Club Team in a division to be eligible for finals. If a player transfers to a different club then they must play the required number of games with the new club to be eligible to play finals for that club. The only exception to this rule will be when the team they are transferring from has withdrawn from the competition and no longer competes. Forfeits will count as a game played, but only for the team which has been forfeited against and only if the player played in the round before or after the forfeited game. The team which forfeits the match cannot claim the forfeited game as one which counts towards finals qualification. Suspensions do not count towards games played. Byes do not count as a game played.

Silent Auction

There is a silent auction running for a pair of elbow guards and knee/shin guards. To put in a bid, please see Leanne at the Lilydale rink. The proceeds will go to the club's fundraising account.

From Wikipedia:

Silent auction: This is often a variant of an English auction, where bids are written on a sheet of paper, and at the predetermined end of the auction, the highest listed bidder wins the prize. This auction variant is often used in charity events, and many items may be auctioned simultaneously. Participants submit bids normally on paper, near the item. Other variations of this type of auction may include sealed bids. The highest bidder pays the price he or she submitted.

Player registrations for Winter 2008 season

Registration night was on the 26th of February 2008.

If you missed it, please submit your registration forms directly to Roz, along with your deposit for next season's fees. It's important for all players to register as soon as possible, so that the committee can submit team lists for next season.
